Whether you’re itching to slay dragons in Dungeons & Dragons or explore sci-fi in Starfinder, RPGs let dice steer your story—here’s how to jump in!

What’s an RPG?

An RPG is a shared adventure where you play a character in a story. Think Dungeons & Dragons: you might be Kael, a sneaky rogue, or Mira, a fiery wizard, teaming up with friends. One player’s the Game Master (GM), painting the world—haunted woods, alien ships—while you decide your actions. Dice roll the outcomes—it’s half theater, half game, all epic!

Dice: Your Story Engine

Dice drive RPGs, and our tool rolls them all—D4 to D20. In D&D, the D20 rules: roll it to attack (18 hits!), dodge (15 saves!), or charm (12 persuades!). High rolls (15-20) win; a 1 might mean slipping on a banana peel mid-fight. Damage dice vary—a D6 for a dagger (4 stabs), a D12 for an axe (12 cleaves). Getting Started

Create a Character – Pick a name (ex.: “Jorin Ironfist”), class (ex.: barbarian), and skills (ex.: strength). No sheet? Roll “6” on D6 on our tool, take each result for stats—Strength 5, Dexterity 3, etc. (3 weak, 18 godly). Flesh them out: Jorin’s a gruff ex-soldier with a scar.

Find a Crew – Grab friends or join online—Discord’s full of groups. One’s the GM, narrating; others play heroes. Solo? Roll a D20—10+ means a friendly NPC joins, 5- means a foe appears. No group’s no excuse—start small!

Roll the Dice – Say “I bash the door”—roll a D20. A 17 smashes it; a 4 strains your shoulder. Hit a goblin? D20 to attack (15 lands), D8 for damage (7 hurts). GM says the goblin swings back—roll a D20 save (12 dodges). Our tool’s instant—try it!

Build the Tale – The GM weaves results: a failed roll springs a trap—roll a D6 (5 stings!). Success opens a chest—roll a D10 for loot (8’s a gem!). Keep rolling, reacting—the story grows wild. Start with our Tips for extra flair—like a D4 for weather (4 = rain).
